Well I still have a long way to go but here's a start to my paper. I usually take a lot longer working on my introduction than on any other aspect of the paper so at least I've moved past that hurdle. I'd be interested to hear any feedback -- is it clear, is it interesting?

ReplyDeleteJake, I think this a very well thought out intro para. From what I understand of your intro para, this is what I expect to see in your paper:
ReplyDelete#1 Prospero is a representation of Shakespeare-this is how we know this...
#2 How archetypal symbols indicate the psychological developments of the author
#3 Shakespeare's characters are infused with elements of the psyche (I am assumed you will discuss more Jungian terms here)
#4 Those elements of the psyche that are developed in the play demonstrate why this play is still relevant today.
Some thoughts I have for you. I think you did a wonderful job of putting this intro together, there is a nice flow between sentences. I also can feel the confidence of what you are trying to say and see that it is interesting to you-which makes your readers more interested in what you have to say. No one likes a passive voice! :-)
However, I still get the feeling your going to be leading me in two different directions. Are you wanting to show that Prospero is Shakespeare through Jungian terms (Pts. 1 and 2)? Or are you wanting to demonstrate why The Tempest is still relevant to us today through Jungian terms? What I see in common is Jungian terms, but I am still having difficulty finding the connection between Shakespeare being Prospero being important to why the play is still relevant. I will say though, I believe you have a grasp of Jung and have an idea of how to run with this. The disconnect could very well be me! It may take the simple reading of your progressing paras for me to get the picture.
